Our Pioneer Quilters Celebration of 50 years of hand quilting together finished up Saturday afternoon. I hope you were able to join us for this delightful event. I loved seeing the exquisite quilts created by some of our founders, and was blown away by the talent our current members showed in their small quilts, and how delightfully they were presented on the tables. So much more eye candy to absorb and delight per square foot! Huge kudos and thanks go to this committee who started meeting and planning this remarkable half-century celebration a couple of years ago!
Before the show opened Friday, I was given the opportunity to meet with two classes of 4-year olds who attend preschool at the church where our show was held.
We talked about squares, triangles and rectangles, read a book about two kids and their mom designing quilts with squares, looked at a few little scrappy quilts and blocks, finding shapes, and saw some variety in the way they were arranged.
I told these potential future hand quilters that designing my quilts is my favorite part of the whole process. I put some 3" squares on a flannel board and demonstrated auditioning them in different positions for a scrappy quilt. I showed them the fun of moving them around for different looks. We took a tour of the quilts in the show before it opened.
Maybe a few decades down the road they'll be the ones planning our 100th year celebration!
